From subtle changes to major restorations, Dr. Bernstein can perform a variety of procedures to improve your smile. There are many techniques and options to treat teeth that are discolored, chipped, misshapen or missing. Dr. Bernstein can reshape your teeth, close spaces, restore worn or short teeth or alter the length of your teeth. Common procedures include bleaching, bonding, crowns, veneers and reshaping and contouring. Implant dentistry is an excellent way to replace missing teeth. These improvements are not generally just cosmetic. In many cases there are functional improvements as well. Bleaching Bleaching is a common and popular process used to whiten teeth. Some people get their teeth bleached to minimize the appearance of stains, while others just want a brighter whiter smile. Discoloration of the teeth is a common occurrence. It can be caused by medication, coffee, tea and cigarettes. Discoloration also can be hereditary or due simply to getting older. Bleaching can be performed by Dr. Bernstein in our office or, under dental supervision, at home. Many patients prefer in office bleaching because the treatment is completed in one visit and all the work is done by our staff while our patient just sits and relaxes. Some patients will prefer to bleach their teeth at home in which case the treatment begins when Dr. Bernstein creates a custom mouthpiece to apply the bleaching gel at home. Typically, whitening at home takes two to four weeks, depending on the desired shade you wish to achieve. We can also do a combination bleaching package where a patient will have in office bleaching done and at home trays made to continue the bleaching at home or to periodically refresh their brighter smile. Bonding Bonding is a technique which utilizes a tooth-colored material to fill in gaps, change the shape and color of teeth and to restore decayed teeth. Requiring a single office visit, bonding may last several years. Bonding is more susceptible to staining or chipping than other forms of restoration. When teeth are chipped or slightly decayed, bonded composite resins may be the material of choice. Bonding also is used as a tooth-colored filling for cavities. Crowns Crowns, also known as caps, cover a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and appearance. Crowns are an excellent and very durable restoration and are used in cases where other procedures will not be as effective. Crowns have the longest life expectancy of all cosmetic restorations. They are commonly placed over dental implants as well as teeth. |
